I’m excited today to release my latest pattern – the Mayu dress! Mayu is Japanese for cocoon which encapsulates the style of this dress – not only in its silhouette but also that it is such a cosy design! I drafted this dress a month or so back as I wanted to create a design that would be comfortable to wear at home while my girls were remote learning. The pattern offers a comfortable cocoon shape, inseam pockets short sleeves, long sleeves and also three quarter sleeves with a simple roll up cuff.

The pattern is designed for knit fabrics and is perfect in fabrics such as French terry, mid weight jersey and Ponte de Roma, for example. Only a small piece of ribbing is needed to make the dress to create the waistband. I love the dress with sandals as well as with sandshoes/sneakers.

Oh, and did I mention ruffles? I certainly love a good ruffle and you can add sweet gathered ruffles to the shoulders of the Mayu dress. As you can see above, you can simply serge the edges of your ruffle pieces with coordinating thread for a pretty effect. Of course, if you prefer to sew a narrow hem, this looks great too.

You can find the Mayu dress in English and Dutch in the sewpony shop!
